The Ceremony

What is the order of events with the Civil Registrar?

The official ceremony of Civil Marriages is as follows:

  1. The Reading of the Act of Marriage in the presence of two witnesses who are of age.
  1. The CONSENT which is as follows:

John, do you willingly accept to take Jane as your wife according to Law?

Jane, do you willingly accept to take John as your husband according to Law?

Kindly note that the vows and exchange of rings are optional, and they are not a legal requirement.

After both parties have given their CONSENT, the Celebrant will pronounce the marriage by saying:

Married by me (name of celebrant) after due publication and without opposition and after the two parties have declared to me in the presence of the witnesses that they are willing to take each other for husband and wife. I accordingly pronounce that they are united by marriage according to Law.
